Dissertation Title: “Measuring Consumer Based Brand Equity in Indian Deemed to be Universities”
Status: Target to submit the thesis report by July 2025. Data analysis, and report writing is completed.
Research Guide: Dr. Peri Pinakapani, Head, Department of Marketing, School of Business

DISSERTATION OVERVIEW:

Higher educational institutions in India are experiencing a huge change, and the number of started or attained the status of universities is on the rise. However, the number of students opting for abroad education has steeply climbed up after a lull due to Covid19 pandemic. In addition, Indian government is examining the prospect of premier Universities from world over to setting up their campuses in India.

In this context, it is essential for the administration and leadership of universities to build a strong University brand. A host of challenges like setting up of newer institutions, reducing national boundaries, more options to students, pressure of edutech companies to compete on lot of courses and increased expectations on brand performance from parents and students altogether have increased the criticality of the role of brand equity for universities. Yet, there has been very limited academic research to understand the role played by brand equity of universities in an Indian context.

With this background, this thesis proposes to develop a framework of factors related to consumer-based brand equity (CBBE) for a university, and the impact on Brand loyalty. The
research focused on considering the factors proposed in the literature, as well as any specific factors emerging for Indian context.
